UI shuts medical students' hall over protest.



STUDENTS resident in the Alexander Brown Hall of the University of Ibadan has been ordered to vacate the facility not later than 12 noon today (Saturday, April 7, 2018) over agitations following the increment in professional training and accommodation fees.


A notice of closure issued by the registrar, Mr O. I. Olukoya, following a meeting of the Academic Board of the institution’s College of Medicine on Friday, said the decision was taken in view of the security implications of the students’ action.

“In view of the security threat that the students’ action may pose, the board, therefore, recommended an immediate closure of the Alexander Brown Hall until further notice with a review of the situation in two weeks,” it stated.

Students of the university had on on Thursday embarked on a protest against increment in their accommodation fees from N14,000 to N30,000.

The meeting is expected to have in attendance members of the university management, students, alumni partners and other stakeholders.
